A three-year-old girl in Jiangxi who died of a brain tumor on Tuesday helped save the lives of five other people when her heart, liver, kidneys and corneas were donated.
The child was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor earlier this year. Her family visited multiple hospitals for treatment, but doctors said that her condition was too far progressed and she couldn’t be saved.
The young girl was confined to a hospital bed after her head began swelling, and her parents decided they should discuss with their daughter the possibility of donating her organs.
“I didn’t think she would quite understand the word ‘donation’ at first,” her father, Liu Xiaobao, said. “I tried to explain that if we would give something from her body, she could save the lives of others. She agreed to this.”
The child passed away on Tuesday after her physical condition had begun to deteriorate considerably. Soon after her death, the child’s organs were transplanted successfully into five different patients awaiting organs. All recipients are in stable condition.
