The aircraft named “White Swan”.
A 71-year-old man in Lishui city, Zhejiang province reportedly spent 100,000 RMB constructing a manned rotary-wing aircraft that can fly as high as 1,000 meters, Chutian Metropolis Daily reported.
Jin Shaozhi has been keen on making model airplanes since he was just a kid. The former doctor became more involved in building aircraft after he retired eight years ago. Jin studied in an aviation club and after he took flight training in Beijing and Xi’an, he began to modify and construct planes. So far, he has bought and modified three planes and constructed three planes of his own.
“Most of the aircraft accessories are purchased from hardware stores and Taobao”, Jin told reporters. “Only the engine was purchased second-hand for 30,000 RMB overseas. In total, it ‘s costed 100,000 RMB.”
In theory, the aircraft can fly up to 1,000 meters high, but taking safety into consideration, Jin controls its elevation to under 500 meters during test flights.
Jin said he’ll continue the hobby into old age. “Never too old to learn and ‘play’ (with aircraft)”, he told reporters.
