Eid al-Edha, the holiest feast in the Islamic calendar conducted to mark the end of the Haj, or the pilgrimage to Mecca, begins today.
A flock of 96 Tibetan sheep weighing 20-30kg each have been sent to Xi An on Friday morning for sacrificial purposes. According to tradition, Muslims are obliged to conduct sincere, devout worship, to slaughter in honour of friends and relatives, and to carry out charitable activities.
Muslims in Qinghai have also been attending prayer sessions.
