A two day old baby boy was reportedly stolen by a woman who disguised herself as a nurse in a Gangzhou hospital 1 October. Gangzhou police quickly rescued the baby and arrested the woman with her two accomplices.
The suspect, who is unable to have a child, had been inquiring about the newborns at the hospital for many times, police said.
The lightning-fast police apprehended the female suspect and her two accomplices within 22 hours – luckily, the baby did not suffer the fate faced by this other stolen baby.
Naturally, the case has sparked online backlash.
One web user wrote, “The suspect should be sentenced to capital punishment. The newborn infant brings hope and happiness to the family after the ten-month pregnancy and pain of delivery. It makes no difference to kill the mother if she loses the infant.”
“I strongly demand that laws pertaining to crimes of baby trafficking and stealing be amended. This kind of criminals should be sentenced to death penalty. Vote me up, if you agree!” said another user angrily.
Others commented, “If you are unable to have a child yourself, you can adopt one, why steal someone else’s child?”
