Following reports that at least seven mainlanders had been detained for supporting Occupy Central earlier this week, Apple Daily is now saying that Beijing artist Ding Ding has been detained for involvement in Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement.
His wife, Chen Cheng, revealed that police had rummaged around their place and showed a search warrant with police permits only after Ding requested. Six to seven police officers encircled Ding and asked him to make confession, she said.
Police likewise questioned if Chen had attended the sit-ins in Hong Kong with other Beijing artists. The officers confiscated an iMac, a laptop with a malfunctioning hard-drive and camera memory cards.
Chen went to the police station to find her husband the next day and was told that he was still in detainment. She stated that she was given no other information about her husband’s whereabouts.
It is reported that other Songzhuang artists were arrested over their support of Occupy Central, including Cui Guangxia, Zhu Yanguang, and poet Wang Zhang.
