The famed White Horse Temple in Luoyang, Henan province was, of course, teeming with tourists throughout the week-long national holiday. So many, in fact, that the temple’s wishing well became overloaded with coins thrown in by visitors and had to be cleared out at least four times a day. Cha-ching.
The well has supposedly been standing for thousand of years and is believed to bring fortune and healthiness to visitors. Well-wishers from all over the country come to drop money in it for good luck.
A monk from the temple said that the well sees most action around big holiday festivals. As the number of travelers reached record highs this year, the wells were cleared almost four times per day when the temple was at maximum capacity.
