Burglars broke into the home of Hong Kong property tycoon Cecil Chao and stole over HK$10 million (US$1.29 million) worth of valuables, Ming Pao Daily said today.
Chao, who you may recall as the man who publicly offered to pay $HK1 billion to a male suitor who would marry his lesbian daughter, did not confirm the exact amount of the items stolen from him, but initial investigations found that six antiques, five watches and 20 jewelry items had been taken.
The robbery occurred on Tuesday morning, ejinsight relays. It’s believed that the burglars used a two-meter iron rod found at the scene to enter through a window of Chao’s mansion in the Pok Fu Lam district.
A police source cited in an SCMP article said the CCTV system was out of order at the time of the robbery.
Chao only briefly commented on the break-in before driving off with his young girlfriend in a Rolls-Royce yesterday.
His mansion was the third to be hit in a string of break-ins targeting luxury homes in Hong Kong in the past four days.
