A 21-year-old handicapped freshman named Yu Chongle who attended his first class on Oct. 9 in Guangxi Normal University’s Lijiang College by crawling his way through has attracted attention at university, Tencent News reported.
Yu, who is originally from Shilong town, Hezhou city, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region can’t walk but can stand for ten minutes at the most. His legs were severely deformed due to atrophy after he had a fever when he was only four months old.

Yu said that his young brother carried him to school until his brother dropped out of school. After that, he felt uneasy about losing his brother’s support. “I wanted to quit schooling at the time, but I finally chose to continue as my parents encouraged me to.” Yu told reporters.
By Junior 1, Yu was able to help his family out with a variety of tasks such as hiking up to hills to cut firewood and grass, cook as well as take care of his sick younger brother and aging grandparents. He made himself a pair of wooden blocks to assist with his movement.

Yu was admitted to Guangxi Normal University’s Law department in July. Some senior students went to the tuition office to deliver his tuition fees for him while others made his bed when he came to school in September. His school also moved his dorm to the first floor and most of his classes were arranged at low levels.
“I feel warm on the inside after coming to university, as if I am with family.” he said gratefully.
On his second school day, many students offered to carry him to his classroom on the second floor. Yu politley declined and told them that he could do it on his own. “In my opinion, if I can’t change this society, I will try my best to adjust myself and fit in.” said Yu.
The most difficult task for Yu is moving downstairs. Because he needs to concentrate while going down, he doesn’t answer his classmates who say hi to him.

His wooden blocks are wear out quickly and are replaced once every six months. His right hand is also seriously deformed due to how much he relies on it for walking. Yu only has two sets of summer clothes that he washes with his own hands. “Yu doesn’t need much of our help. Instead, he often inspires us by his spirits of challenging and conquering himself,” said a university maid.

As soon as he arrived at school, he went to find a tricycle repair store. “I often ride my tricycle on flat ground. I need to find the store to fix my tricycle when it is broken.”
