A father in Chengdu has resorted to selling sanitary pads while disguised as a woman in order to raise money for medical treatment for his young daughter, who suffers from leukemia, reported Huanqiu.com.
32-year-old Wang Hai Lin, originally from Sichuan, made only about 1000 yuan a month as a cook in a hotel. In March this year, his daughter Wang Yaqin was diagnosed with leukemia, and has since undergone six rounds of chemotherapy that has exhausted about 20,000 yuan of his savings.
He is currently strapped for cash, with only just a few hundred yuan on him, and needs to raise money by selling sanitary pads at 20 yuan a pack for his daughter’s medical treatment.
His daughter, whom he says loves dancing and listening to music, and is very sweet and obedient, can be seen with him at the makeshift stall along a Chengdu street where he sells several different brands of sanitary pads. He disguises himself as a woman, sporting a red wig and pink top and trousers, to make the process easier.
Currently, his wife is working at a Shandong petrol station and is the family’s sole breadwinner. Wang says that he has no choice but to supplement the family income through selling sanitary pads.
The cardboard sign on the photos reads:
“I’m selling sanitary pads to raise money to save my 2 year old daughter!
Please be kind-hearted and help us out, many thanks”
