On Monday, pictures emerged of the bottle-strewn floor of a Wuhan convention center that had just finished hosting an environmental conference. Attendees left the place trashed, without picking up their own water bottles and, apparently, without picking up on the delicious irony of the situation.
After listening and debating on methods to clean up Wuhan’s air and water, the conference-goers left behind some 200 bottles littered on the floor. In their defense, there were only two trash cans in the room and they were both already overflowing (woulda never happened in Shenzhen) and there’s no telling when they’d find another trash bin. One lonely worker was left to pick up after them
Even worse, most of the bottles were left nearly full. According to NetEase, they somehow managed to waste so much water that it was the equivalent of what four three-member households would drink in a month. Perhaps next year the conference can address how to make environmental conferences more clean and sustainable, and just work outward from there. They can start by employing her.
