The stress of having to prepare for the insane Gaokao examinations usually keeps students feverishly cooped up in their rooms studying 24/7. But a Chengdu high school hopes to introduce some element of balance in its students academic lives’ by issuing the decree that all students would have to clock up a minimum of 600 whopping kilometres within the three years of their high school programme in order to graduate. Maybe the gaokao sounds less intimidating now?
The banner that the students are carrying reads: “Healthy in body and spirit, full of emotions and vitality.”
Over 4000 teachers, parents and students completed a 1000m jog on Tuesday afternoon in order to kick off the initiative, which applies to all new entrants joining the school this year, reported news163.com. At least they don’t have to take part in insane military motivational drills, and might have a better shot at pretending to be elite athletes when trying to enter top universities.
