Beijing’s Olympic Park hosted its most important event since the 2008 Olympics over the weekend, serving as the battleground for a clash between a giant robotic dragon-horse and a mechanized giant spider that somehow served to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Paris and Beijing.
According to Xinhua, the robots were built and operated by a French performance art company La Machine, and the performance was designed to combine Chinese culture with French art – the end result of which apparently looks a lot like robot wars. Check out the titans in action in this video by the BBC:
The performance was such a hit that it even made it up to the highest rungs of powers, with Xi Jinping thanking the French president for the performing mechanical dragon-horse, according to iFeng News. Hopefully, this makes up for all the disgusting food he had to scarf down earlier this year.
Perhaps soon, these two can travel south and face a new challenger.
