The girl and her first “temporary boyfriend”
A 19-year-old Shanghai woman became a subject of scrutiny online after she’d posted recruitment notices to social media sites seeking a “temporary boyfriend” to accompany her during her travels.
The notice, which was posted on popular sites including Douban and Tianya, read: “Travel with [me]’: Post-’95, adorable girl recruiting temporary boyfriends from all parts of China to be my travel partners.”
The post further explained that the woman’s plan was to “Recruit one temporary boyfriend from the local area when/before visiting the city,” and to “Travel all over China [with her spending] ZERO yuan.”
She explained that she doesn’t have any income and she doesn’t want to ‘suffer’ during her tours. She merely asks that the temporary boyfriend take care of all her accommodations. In return for that, she’ll travel with him all day and spend the night with him.
However, she does list some basic requirements. The “boyfriend” she seeks must be above 1.75 meters, under 30 years old, rich and generous.
The woman said she’d already traveled through Suzhou, Wuxi and Nanjing while in the company of three local boyfriends, according to Sina News.
Xiao Xiao the lucky suitor from Suzhou who first accompanied her, declined to speak much about the matter, but said he hoped “netizens and media don’t make a fuss of it”.
The post has received tens of thousands of clicks. A large majority of web users lambasted her behavior and attitude with comments such as: “The girl just wants something for nothing and has lost her moral compass.”
Others expressed concern for the young woman’s safety, and some simply stated that “‘Lu pao’ (traveling while dating) is her lifestyle. Others shouldn’t stop her with their own will. ”
