Shanghai foodie app IndulgeSmart is back for a second time to take Shanghaiist readers out to dinner. Qualifying for your free vouchers is as easy as A-B-C. Just follow the two following steps.
1. Download the app.
2. Fire up the app, and click on “Refer a friend”.
This allows you to share the app with your friends through WeChat or QR code, and get them to join your “Smart Crew”. For the first five friends that sign up through you, you’ll receive a 200RMB restaurant voucher , and the bigger your crew grows, the more vouchers you’ll win — not bad!
IndulgeSmart’s new “intelligent search” also allows you to sift through a growing number of user-generated reviews based on specific dining interests. Think of it as a search engine that helps you find out what foodies in Shanghai are saying about “rooftop bars”, “happy hours”, “craft beer” or anything else that might tickle your fancy. We did a search for “pretentious” and found a few pretentious places to take our visitors to the next time 😉
Jamie Barys, Chief Eating Officer at UnTour Shanghai (formerly editor of Talk Magazine), describes IndulgeSmart as “one of the most user-friendly English apps”, including “certain paid apps that are constantly needing updates and still don’t manage to cover the whole city”.
“I use FourSquare and Dianping constantly on my phone to find out about new restaurants and check out reviews of existing ones. IndulgeSmart takes the best of both of those and turns it into a more useful app, especially for Shanghai residents who don’t read Chinese and can’t use Dianping to its fullest extent,” says Barys. “Also, the user reviews on IS seem more genuine than Dianping, where it’s common practice for restaurants to pay fake reviewers to seed their pages with positive comments, or attack their competitors with negative ones.”
