A bus driver in Jiangsu province is facing criminal charges after his vehicle collided with a cyclist as he was looking down at his mobile phone while driving.
Upon investigating surveillance footage from a security camera on the bus, police in Zhenjiang discovered that the man, surnamed Gao, had used his phone a total of 39 times within the seven minutes leading up to the September 5 crash, Sina News reports.
Gao had been traveling around 70 km per hour when he glanced at his phone to check a missed call. Just as he looked up, his bus collided with the elderly man crossing the intersection on a bicycle.
The cyclist was pronounced dead at the hospital. Gao has now had his license revoked and is facing criminal charges.
