An epic case of weapons trafficking was uncovered in Hubei province on Tuesday, when a firearms enthusiast was discovered to have turned his rented apartment into a small arms factory, reports NetEase.
The suspect, hailing from Huangshi in Hubei province, was reported to have bought a variety of gun parts from the internet, which he then assembled in his small two room apartment and sold to people all over China. So far this year he has sold small caliber rifles to people in Shandong, Hunan, Guangdong, Fujian, Hubei, Chongqing and six other provinces and cities. The guns were reportedly sold for prices ranging between 20,000 and 40,000 Chinese yuan, depending on the specifications of the weapon.
On discovering the ‘arms factory’, police seized an impressive array of weaponry, including eight illegal firearms, 29 sets of small caliber rifle accessories, four sets of Condor air gun accessories, over 6000 rounds of ammunition for various weapons and a variety of air guns and shotguns.
Huangshi Municipal Public Security Bureau deputy director, Jiang Zhikai told reporters that this is the biggest ever case of illegal gun sales that the Huangshi police department has ever encountered.
