Four people have now been reported dead and 20 more injured after a man went on a rampage and began stabbing them or running them over with a car yesterday morning in Hubei.
Police said that two people were killed when the man got into a car and plowed into a crowd of pedestrians on Shennong Road around 7:00 a.m. Dozens were injured, seven of whom had to be sent to the People’s Hospital’s brain surgery department.
More details have emerged about incidents that led up to the road rampage. According to a source close to the local government, the suspect, Deng Zhongkun, killed his friend’s wife and child at home after losing money in a card game.
He called the police, and while waiting for them to arrive, he “went crazy,” the source said. He rushed out onto the street with a knife and began stabbing pedestrians at random. He then forced a sedan driver to get out, took over the car, and ran the group of people over.
The report didn’t specify how many people were stabbed or run over.
