Dan Washburn, author of The Forbidden Game.
You’ve read the book, now meet the author! Award-winning journalist and founding editor of Shanghaiist Dan Washburn returns to China to talk about his new book, The Forbidden Game: Golf and the Chinese Dream. He’ll be meeting with readers and signing his book at two events in Shanghai and another in Beijing.
Washburn lived in China from 2002 to 2011 and spent more than seven years researching and writing the book, which follows the lives of three men intimately involved in China’s bizarre golf scene, each on a different path to their own Chinese dream. The result is one of the best reviewed China books of the year: it’s been described as “strikingly original” by The Wall Street Journal, “gripping” by The Economist, and “an illuminating portrait of modern China” by other critics.
