The girl was found buried beneath rubble near an exit to the Shanghai-Changzhou Expressway.
A man is being held by police in connection with the murder of a six-year-old girl whose body was found last week near a highway in Shanghai’s Qingpu district, Shanghai Daily reports, citing local police.
The child had been playing at her grandmother’s home in Xunan, a village located in the district, when she disappeared last Monday.
The suspect was also a resident of Xunan and had gone missing at the same time, according to police, who didn’t specify where he was found.
She was reported as missing on the same day. Her body was found on Thursday near a toll booth at an exit to the Shanghai-Changzhou Highway, about a 15-minute drive from Xunan.
Villagers said the unnamed suspect grew grapes for a living and was around 20 years old. They said he’d lived in the village for two years but rarely spoke to neighbors.
