Six people were killed and more than 20 people injured after a bus overturned on the Donghai Bridge as it was traveling out of Shanghai, Chinese state media and bridge management personnel said.
The accident occurred around 9:40 this morning as the bus was carrying at least 46 people from Pudong to Zhoushan, a city in Zhejiang province.
Li Hailiang, an employee at the Donghai Bridge Administration in Shanghai, said in an Associated Press report that it’s still unclear what caused the one-vehicle accident.
CCTV reported that more than 20 people had been injured. Some of them were rushed to Shanghai’s Ruijin Hospital by helicopter for treatment.
The Donghai Bridge connects Shanghai with a port in the East China Sea, and with a length of 32.5 kilometers, is one of the longest cross-sea bridges in the world.
