Modelling can be a tough, demanding and potentially profitable gig. Take for instance one Taobao model in Chengdu who somehow manages to model 150 different outfits a day and makes more than 10,000 yuan a day for the hassle, according to NetEase.
The insane rise in this model’s workload goes along with the fast approaching Singles’ Day, where in China, an unholy amount of stuff is purchased online. Xiao Ye says that she starts work at 7:00 a.m. and after breakfast and make-up, starts her whirlwind of outfit changes. She says she needs one minute to change clothes and three minutes for each photo shoot.
She does five poses for each item of clothing and is then on to the next one. In one day it adds up to more than 700 poses. And this corresponds with a lot of cash in her pockets, though she’s reluctant to say how much.
But one online clothing store’s owner isn’t. He said that models are paid either by the item or by the hour. Depending on the quality of the model the pay is 40 to 150 RMB an item, so with around 20 pieces of clothing a day, he estimates a model can make between 1500 RMB to 5000 RMB in one day. 150 pieces of clothing is a little more 20 pieces, so it’s safe to assume that Xiao Ye is pulling in at least 10,000 yuan for her trouble.
Of course, with so many shoe changes, there are job hazards to account for.
