One child was killed and another injured after being stabbed by a man in Jiangsu province on Monday.
Xinhua reports that the man, armed with a knife, attacked the young boy and girl aged between three and four years old in the Langgudun village of Xuzhou city around 2:40 p.m. They were both sent to the hospital, where the girl was later pronounced dead.
The unidentified suspect was caught and detained by police. Preliminary investigation showed that he has a history of mental illness.
This case is the latest in a tragic string of attacks on children within recent months. On Friday, an eight-year-old boy in Jiangxi was stabbed to death and two of his classmates were injured after being attacked by a suspect who’d been released from jail in April. The man immediately fled into a nearby mountain and has not yet been found.
At the end of September, four children in Guangxi were fatally stabbed as they were on their way to school. Updated reports say the suspect’s body was found in the mountains in early October.
