A sixth grade student in Shanghai who suffered a broken foot as passengers rushed to get off a bus received a hefty 56,000 yuan in compensation at the Jiading People’s Court.
The accident happened back in February as the boy, identified as Binbin, was on his way home from school on a crowded bus, Shanghai Daily reports. He’d been standing next to door of the bus and was pushed down to the ground as a small stampede of passengers quickly exited, as they sometimes do, leaving his foot caught in the door.
Binbin sustained a serious fracture to his left foot, although the the cost of his medical treatment was not disclosed in the report. His parents demanded compensation of more than 70,000 yuan.
The unnamed bus company agreed to pay 15 percent of that sum, arguing that the injury was a result of other passengers.
