A man in Shandong who vowed to marry his cancer-stricken girlfriend made good on his word and the two were photographed yesterday holding up their marriage certificates.
Yu Haining, 24, and Fan Huixiang, 25, have been in a relationship for five years. After discovering that she had been diagnosed with cancer this past summer, he quit his job so that he could be with her.
Fan suffers with Stage 4 Metastatic adenocarcinoma cancer and has only weeks, at most months, to live, her doctors say.
Just a week ago, Fan was unsure about whether she should marry her longtime boyfriend.
“Every woman dreams of marriage. I don’t know how long can I survive. If I agree to marry him and leave him in the near future, what can he do?” she said to reporters.
In July, a woman in Changsha, Hunan province proposed to her boyfriend who was in the hospital receiving treatment for acute leukemia.
“My biggest dream is to see her in a wedding dress and posing for wedding photos, even if I’m not able to be in the pictures with her,” he’d said at the time.
