Madam Ma Lijuan, wife of renowned Chinese actor-director Zhao Benshan, won back $395,000 in court after suing a car dealer and her former assistant over the sale of her Porsche Cayenne two years ago.
Madam Ma, 49, is currently living in Singapore, where her children study. Back in September 2012, she asked her assistant Florence Lim Meiling to help her sell her car, The Straits Times reports.
Lim brought the car to her friend’s dealership, Primelink Motoring, which is owned by Douglas Boon Ken Li. She told Ma that she could fetch $415,000 for the Porsche.
After the car sold in 2012, Ma received $20,000, but Lim was never able to come up with the remaining $395,000, despite Ma’s continual requests.
Ma later filed a lawsuit against both Boon and Lim for conspiracy to defraud in what her lawyer referred to as a “wheels for cash” scam.
Ma won default judgment against Lim in August when her former assistant never showed up in court. Boon’s trial was set to start on Wednesday, but Boon likewise failed to show his face. The high court judge ruled in favor of Ma.
Zhao Benshan is a sitcom actor and director from Liaoning province. Notably, he appeared on the CCTV New Year’s Gala every year from 1987 to 2011. He and Ma have been married since 1992.
