Chinese President Xi Jinping once again sits comfortably in third place on this year’s list of the World’s 72 Most Powerful People, released by Forbes yesterday. Xi trails right behind US President Barack Obama, sandwiched in at number two for the second year in a row, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who took number one, also same as last year.
In fact, last year’s top five was a list so nice they used it twice. Pope Francis again came in at number four, followed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel at five.
Federal Reserve Board chair Janet Yellen moved into sixth place, followed by Bill gates and the European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi. Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google together took the number nine spot and UK Prime Minister David Cameron rounded off the top 10.
The 2014 list featured 39 CEOs and chairs who control a combined total of over $3.6 trillion in annual revenues, two among them being Alibaba’s Jack Ma, a newcomer on the list, and Tencent’s Ma Huateng.
