Dan Washburn, author of The Forbidden Game.
Award-winning journalist and founding editor of Shanghaiist Dan Washburn has been speaking to full houses in Shanghai and Beijing this week about his new book, The Forbidden Game: Golf and the Chinese Dream. If you’ve missed the last two events, your final opportunity to meet the author happens this afternoon 4pm at the Glamour Bar.
Washburn lived in China from 2002 to 2011 and spent more than seven years researching and writing the book, which follows the lives of three men intimately involved in China’s bizarre golf scene, each on a different path to their own Chinese dream. The result is one of the best reviewed China books of the year: it’s been described as “strikingly original” by The Wall Street Journal, “gripping” by The Economist, and “an illuminating portrait of modern China” by other critics.
