Following reports about scores of activists being detained in China for showing support for the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, BBC’s Martin Patience attempted to contact prominent dissident Hu Jia at his home in Beijing, but was unsurprisingly refused access by security. That didn’t stop Hu from making an appearance in the background, waving around a yellow umbrella in a show of solidarity for the so-called Umbrella Revolution.
Amnesty International says that as of November 6, a total of 76 people in China were in detainment for voicing support for the protestors who’ve been occupying the streets of Hong Kong for around seven weeks.
Hu previously told AFP, “I will participate in this event. In my home prison in Beijing.”
