Authorities in Hebei seized around 120 million yuan in corrupt cash along with 37 kilograms of gold and 68 certificates of house ownership at an unidentified official’s home, China Daily reported today.
A legal source with knowledge of the case said that the official was a local director in charge of water resources in Qinhuangdao.
Hubei’s discipline inspection commission described the case of corruption as a “shock” to them.
We should mention that a whopping 200 million yuan was discovered at another official’s home just earlier this year. The haul of cash found in Wei Pengyuan’s house was apparently the largest stash found since the founding of the People’s Republic of China (an achievement that probably won’t be named among China’s various esteemed records).
