Alibaba founder Jack Ma recently told CNBC in an interview that he’s not happy to be China’s richest man.
“Forbes, I don’t know which magazine said, I’m the richest man in China. It’s such a great pain,” Ma said.
“When you are rich, people are surrounding you for money”, he added, explaining that people treat him more like a celebrity than an entrepreneur.
“I wanted to be a respected businessman.”
Ma said that he had no idea that Alibaba would blow up the way it did or that he could make so much money out of it.
Not long after his record-breaking $25 billion public offering in September, the 50-year-old e-commerce tycoon was named for the first time on Forbe’s list of the world’s most powerful people.
Adding to recent victories, online sales on Alibaba’s Tmall and Taobao exceeded 57.1 billion yuan on Singles’ Day, the biggest online shopping day of the year.
