Two died and several others were injured when a six-story private building that had been under construction collapsed at around 4 a.m. on Saturday in Changyaoling village of Guangzhou’s Baiyun district, reported China News.
A dozen construction workers were at the site when the building toppled, according to the villagers.
The owner of the building has started remodeling the building late last year, modifying the original two-story building into a six-story one, which then makes the building top-heavy.
“When I heard the crashing sound at the wee hours, I initially thought it was an earthquake,” said A Liang, a witness. “I immediately came out of my house and saw the building collapse”.
The seven injured workers, including one who was severely injured, were taken to hospital.
In the past months, two other similar incidents have also occurred in Henan and Shanxi respectively.
