A fighter jet horrifically crashed into the walls of a Sichuan property development on Saturday, setting fires ablaze and injuring at least seven in the process, NetEase reported. Soldiers on the military aircraft were spotted parachuting down to safety by nearby villagers, though it is unknown what sparked the crash.
The crash happened in Pi county, Chengdu, Sichuan province. At least three sustained severe burns, while 7 others were injured. Official reports of casualties have not been released, though the injured were sent to the Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital and the local hospital for treatment.
Groups of passers-by gathered to gawk at emergency workers carrying out rescue work, such as putting out fires that had been sparked by the impact of the crash.
Witnesses told the press that even as firefighters were busy battling flames, explosions could be heard from within the property development.
A similar fighter jet crash also occurred in 2011.
