A 21-year-old girl in Chongqing has been dubbed by web users as “chestnut sister” after it was reported that she cashes in around 10,000 RMB every month by selling chestnuts on the street at night.
Liu Xia lived with her father after her parents got a divorce and, due to her dad’s poor health, she began working in a restaurant after she graduated from middle school.
At the end of 2012, Liu found a part-time job selling chestnuts. She could earn 2.5 yuan in commission from her boss every time she sold a pack of chestnuts.
She told reporters that her commission went up the longer she stuck with the job. She regularly sells from 6 p.m. every evening around Rangjiabao, Dashiba and Guanyinqian, where beers are served.
“Chestnut sister” sells more than a hundred packs while other salesgirls can only sell out 50 packs at the most.
She said she sells over 30 tons of chestnuts and currently makes around 10,000RMB per month.
Liu picks out chestnuts in her business partner’s home.
She said her secret of success is selling her chestnuts with politeness, sincerity and honesty.
Liu leaves home at 6 p.m. and returns home around 1 a.m.
She recently began posting notices on her WeChat to recruit more partners and establish her own sales team.
Liu writes positive notes to motivate herself to work harder.
“When I have my own brand, I will be able to earn more and after that, I’ll be able to move my father into my own house,” she said.
