Queen Maxima of the Netherlands visited a noodle restaurant on a farm in Beijing’s Daxing district on Wednesday, where she watched staff members demonstrate their homemade noodle-making skills as they talked business.
At the invitation of the Chinese government, the Dutch Queen arrived in China for a four-day visit as UN Secretary-General Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development to discuss access to financial services, according to NetEase.
Queen Maxima spoke with the restaurant owner, Wang Yan, about using loans to maximize business and how to deal with repayments. Wang, who’d taken out a 150,000 yuan loan to double the size of her restaurant, explained to the Queen how she’d gained finance knowledge and the availability of training around her.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon designated the Queen to her role as UNSGSA in September 2009. The role is aimed at raising awareness on inclusive financial systems for reducing poverty and achieving development goals, and sends the Queen to various developing countries where she will assess small companies such as this one and submit reports to the UN regarding Inclusive Finance development.
