In a move that has melted hearts online, a woman in Guangzhou on Tuesday proposed to her boyfriend, who was diagnosed with melanoma earlier this year, as he lay in his hospital bed.
Twenty-eight-year-old Liu Jinwei and her 36-year-old boyfriend, Sun Xidong, had talked about tying the knot at the end of the year, but their plans were cut short when Sun was diagnosed with melanoma, one of the most dangerous types of skin cancer, in July, according to Tencent.
Liu told reporters that Sun has no parents, no home and no money, but she insisted on marrying him nonetheless. “He cares for me and takes good care of me. I have to marry him, ” said Liu. “I must hold a wedding for him.”
As Liu was approaching Sun’s hospital bed, he had no idea what it was going on. Right after she knelt down and popped the question, teary-eyed Sun agreed to marry her.
The melanoma was detected in Sun’s right nasal cavity and spread to his lungs, according to his doctor. Melanoma has a low morbidity rate but a high mortality rate.
In July, a Hunan woman proposed to her boyfriend who was undergoing treatment for leukemia at a hospital. Months later, we reported on a Shandong man who quit his job and came to Henan to take care of his cancer-stricken girlfriend. Eventually, he kept his promise to wed her in the hospital ward.
