A branch of the Chongqing Rural Commercial Bank in Wushan County, Chongqing received a seriously heavy deposit yesterday afternoon: 100,000 RMB in one-yuan coins.
The depositor, a woman surnamed Su, had to deliver the five larges boxes of coins to the bank in a truck, NetEase News reports.
It took six bank employees a painstaking two hours just to count through one-fifth of the coins. The remaining portion was kept inside a bank and will be tabulated today.
It is estimated that the total weight of the coins is about 650 kilograms. Su said the money is a repayment of various debts from others.
Massive coin deposits may not be easy to deal with, but they’re not entirely uncommon in China’s banks. Last month, a homeless couple in Hubei exchanged thousands of coins for 304 yuan, which they’d saved up for their daughter’s college fund.
