What’s this? What’s this?! A group of penguins were recently photographed marveling at China’s 31st Antarctic expedition team onboard Xue Long (Snow Dragon), a Chinese icebreaker and research vessel, while the crew was unloading cargo in the Antarctic ice region.
The gawking Antarctic penguins seemingly stood in awe while some of the braver ones began flapping their wings as if to wave and say “hi” to the crew, Sina said. Aww.
The Snow Dragon, whose home port is Shanghai, was build in 1993 at Kherson Shipyard in Ukraine. It set off in October on the country’s 31st Antarctic expedition with the mission of building a base station for the BeiDou navigation satellite system. The expedition team is made up of 281 members from mainland China, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey. They’re scheduled to return in April next year.
