Working hand in hand (quite literally), 18 university students and three citizens in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, saved a girl from drowning last Sunday.
A photographer first noticed the girl walking into the water and shouted: ”She is trying to kill herself!” Moments later, 18 students from Yanshan University and three men at the beach rushed into the cold sea water, NetEase News reports.
They held each other’s hand one by one, building up a 30 to 40 meter-long “life chain”. Eventually, they managed to bring the girl to shore. The three citizens left the scene when the girl was saved and didn’t leave their names.
“We were all very worried and ran into the sea immediately. Many of our mobile phones are wet and can’t be turned on,” one student told NetEase News.
This is just one of many stories about ordinary citizens rising to the occasion in such a situation. This past July, citizens in Sichuan jumped into a river to save a woman from drowning (and unfortunately, had their belongings stolen in the process).
