We all knew this was coming, but never did we expect it to happen so soon. Billionaire philanthropist Chen Guangbiao, dubbed (by himself) as the “most influential person of China”, is now seeking a new title —this time in the Guinness World Records.
Essentially, Chen wants to be rewarded for all the rewards he has, China Daily explains, citing news portal guancha.cn.
The billionaire said he has more than 4,000 certificates and 30,000 silk banners in recognition of good deeds and wants the award of a Guinness World Record to prove it.
“If you ask me to choose between 100 million yuan ($16 million) and a certificate of honor, it must be the certificate. I love the honor, seeing them as my life,” Chen said.
Frankly, it wouldn’t look that out of place among China’s other truly preposterous Guinness Records.
The recycling tycoon and man behind canned air earlier this year hosted an extravagant charity event in New York City in which he promised to pay 1,000 homeless people $300 in cash each. Naturally the whole thing went to hell.
