Alibaba founder Jack Ma is probably really pissed off to learn that he just took the title as Asia’s richest individual, surpassing Hong Kong property tycoon La Ka-shing by some 300 million USD.
Li, with a net worth of 28.3 billion USD, has held the crown since April 5, 2012, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Ma raised a record-breaking 25 billion USD during his public offering in September and the 50-year-old e-commerce tycoon was soon after named for the first time on Forbe’s list of the world’s most powerful people. His fortune is said to be worth around 28.6 billion USD.
But Li, who doesn’t seem quite as inconvenienced by his billions and billions of dollars (a quick Google image search proves that the man has been documented frowning perhaps two times in his life) is by no means taking the news hard.
“I am nothing but happy when young people from China do well,” the 86-year-old said through his spokeswoman in Hong Kong.
An Alibaba spokesman declined to comment, according to Bloomberg.
