A woman was recently seen trying to sell her baby daughter on the street to raise money for the treatment fees for her seriously injured husband in Fuzhou yesterday.
The woman, Ni Qiong, stood on her knees near a hospital bus stop for four hours, holding a post that read: “Begging to sell child: The supervisor disappeared after my husband’s work injury. We have no money for the treatment. Looking to sell my child in order to save her father.”
“I have no other way,” said Ni.
Many people passing through gave her money and even some food, but Ni continued crying on the street with her less-than-one-year-old baby daughter hoisted up on her back and her two other daughters standing nearby.
Ni’s husband, Zhou Guixing, fell from the third floor of a building as he was working last Thursday. His supervisor gave him 7,000 RMB and then disappeared. Zhou and his wife cannot afford the necessary surgery.
When asked whether she could live with selling her own child, Ni became silent. Her two other daughters replied: “No. Please don’t sell our sister.”
One of the girls told a Tencent News reporter that when her little sister was born, their father considered selling her, but her mother insisted on keeping the baby. Now, for her husband, Ni has decided to go out on the streets and do it herself.
Tecent News also published Zhou’s bank account information for those who want to help the family: 6212261402012821754 (Bank: Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, account owner: Zhou Guixing).
