Blending a traditional Chinese sport with a modern Chinese obsession, Beijing-born Jiang Shan has created a mesmerizing freestyle basketball performance which is quickly going viral.
Freestyle basketball is becoming increasingly popular in Asia, especially China, and Jiang is leading the pack. He won China’s freestyle basketball competitions in 2006, 2007, and 2008, and now performs worldwide. Although his family was hoping he would go for a more traditional (read: money-making) route, they have come to terms with his unique career.
Now Jiang, along with his troupe, performs commercially all over the world. They created this tai chi freestyle basketball performance for a Sino-US cultural exchange night in San Diego. They have also also performed for China’s beloved Lebron James and Dikembe Mutombo during their visit to China.
