After a three-month campaign to name the rare surviving triplet pandas, these awwww-worthy babies have officially been named: Kuku (cool), Shuaishuai (handsome), and Mengmeng (cute.) Cute indeed.
The official naming ceremony took place in Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou. The pandas were presented by the staff and three children, then serenaded by pianist Li Yundi, who was named a “panda ambassador” (where those job applications at?). Many panda experts agree that the cubs, born in late July, are past the newborn “danger zone” and are on the right track to living long and healthy lives, making them the only surviving giant panda triplets in history!
The names were chosen to reflect each panda baby’s characteristics. Mengmeng is the oldest sister, while Kuku and Shuaishuai are her two younger brothers. At this point they all kind of look the same to the undiscerning eye—they might as well all be named cute because those little panda faces are SO. DAMN. SQUEE.
