You’ll never complain about that seemingly torturous three-minute walk to the bus stop in the dead of winter again after seeing pictures of these kids in Yunnan whose hair have actually turned into icicles from their long treks to school in the freezing cold.
The students attend the Xiniu Primary School in Makou village, according to a Chuncheng Evening News report. Some of them travel up to two hours to get to school, and many of them come without hats, scarves and winter clothing appropriate for the -5 ℃ weather.
The headmaster of nearby primary school, Makou Central School, saw the images and posted them on Weibo, hoping people could reach out to help the kids and their families, many of whom can’t afford proper winter attire.
“As the indoor temperature is higher, ices on children’s shoes melts so that their shoes get wet…they sometimes have to study sitting in puddles of water,” the headmaster Ning Shiwei told the newspaper.
A local charity campaign collecting clothing and financial aid is now underway.
