A souvenir store with the theme “Protect the Diaoyu Islands” opened yesterday in Baoding, Hebei province.
The owner said that Taiwanese politician James Soong, Chairman of the People First Party, did the calligraphy for its storefront, NetEase News reports.
The store offers Diaoyudao beer, towels, bottles and even a shirt that reads: “We are angry. Japan must apologize and pay compensation”.
A territorial battle over the disputed Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands has attributed in part to the long-standing tensions between China and Japan. While many people in China refuse to get tangled up in the debate, we don’t expect to see a shop filled with Diaoyu friendship cakes opening any time soon.
