An employee found 10 dead fetuses while cleaning trash at a park in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province on December 22. [Post contains images some readers may find disturbing].
The fetuses were wrapped in plastic bags and buried in a small pile of dirt within the park area, NetEase News reports.
It’s unclear whether an illegal clinic was involved in the case, as it is still under investigation.
Child or fetus abandonment has long been a widespread issue in China, where baby hatches have in the past been forced to close down due to the excessive number of unwanted newborn infants being dropped off. Despite criticism that the hatches encourage parents to abandoned their infants, they have proven a much better alternative than cases in which a fetus or newborn baby is flushed down a toilet, abandoned in a trash can, or in this case, buried underground.
