The site of the New Year’s Eve stampede in Shanghai that has killed 36 people was cordoned off yesterday, with grieving relatives holding a candlelight memorial for their lost loved ones.
Most of the victims were young people. Shanghai officials have already identified 32 of the victims, all but four were 25 or younger. The youngest victim was a 12-year-old boy.
The site on the Bund was visited throughout the day by thousands of mourners bringing flowers and praying for the victims.
