Ding and his girl, sitting in a wheelchair and helped along by a dog, begin their trip.
A series of pictures showing a man pulling his wheelchair-using girlfriend as the couple embarks on a journey that will take them across China has gone viral over the weekend, with tens of thousands of internet users voicing their respect for the boyfriend and their well wishes for the lovebird’s trip.
To help fulfill his girlfriend’s dream of traveling, Ding Yizhou, a young man from Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has employed the help of a mountain bike and a “working dog” to assist in their journey, Xinmin Daily reported.
Ding’s girlfriend suffers from hereditary cerebellar ataxia, a condition that leaves her unable to walk or eat properly. Despite the difficulties that they are certain to encounter on the road, the couple said that whether their trip across China is successful isn’t as important as the process in pursuit of their dream.
Ding told reporters that he and his girlfriend had been hiking and camping in Liuzhou for two days as a trial, preparing for their long upcoming journey that will take them across China. As if this isn’t all heartwarming enough yet, the couple also added that they plan to travel in a route that will form the shape of a heart.
Last December, a 27-year-old man from Shijiangzhuang, Hebei Province, used the compensation money from a car accident in which he lost his leg to buy a new car to take his mom traveling across China.
