A recorded interview of a woman who sent her mother to beg on a Harbin street in freezing weather to help raise money for a home has prompted a flood of criticism from web users.
The elderly mother is seen asking for money to help “chip in” for her daughter’s house.
According to a witness, the mother in her 80s was seen begging on the street several days in a row to “chip in” for her daughter’s house, Beijing News reports.
The woman told the interviewer: “Everyone has a dream. I have a dream of buying a house. Is having a dream against the law?”
When asked whether she was concerned about her mother’s health in such cold weather, the woman responded: “[It does’t matter.] Let her do it, she will pass away in a few years anyway.”
Many web users condemned the woman’s actions, with one netizen writing: “’Filial piety is the most important of all virtues’. She doesn’t care if her children treat her the same way in the future like she did to her own mother, does she?”
