Hong Kong actor Jaycee Chan today was sentenced to six months in jail and fined 2,000 yuan for accommodating drug users following his arrest, along with Taiwan-based actor Kai Ko, in Beijing last August.
Thirty-two-year-old Chan and 23-year-old Ko were arrested on August 14 in young Chan’s Beijing villa, where cops scooped up around 100 grams of greenery. Although he had tested positive for marijuana usage, he was charged formally in December only for supplying a “venue” to smoke it. Chan has been roughing it in criminal detention since his arrest, and today’s trial marked his first appearance to the public in almost half a year. He looked, for some reason, like he was stoned throughout the proceeding.
Chan’s sentence includes time already served, so he’ll be released on February 13 with just enough time to further disappoint his father before the Chinese New Year. He got off light, apparently, because of his good attitude during arrest and voluntary confession. Father Jackie Chan previously went on the record to say that “I did not use my personal network to help reduce his sentence or bail him out.”
